Animals’ Angels is known in Europe, North America and Australia as the respected, objective and critical NGO where the transport of “utility” animals is concerned. This applies to all sectors of this gigantic industry whether they are profiteers, regulators, inspectors, veterinarians or legislators.
But yet and for whatever reason, our work is rarely featured in the media. With your help, we would like to change that - with your help!
Generally, the media report much less frequently on advocacy for “utility” animals than on other animal welfare issues, reflecting often the attitude of society – for example, issues affecting whales, baby seals, gorillas and sea turtles are regularly in the media.
All animals deserve protection from exploitation, pain and suffering, but yet the treatment of chickens, cows and pigs is a ‘topic’ that no one wants to address. Journalists who are honest will readily admit this, citing as a reason that utility animals affect the public personally in that they are eating them.
The killing of animals for human consumption continues to be considered by the majority to be justified. Few want to know the details of the mass rearing, transportation and slaughter of animals for food. They turn the page of the newspaper or change the TV channel. Of course no editor or station wants to risk that. Consequently, it is better to ignore the topic and in so doing the media and public conveniently ignore the exploitation, pain, suffering and death of the animals involved.
This ethical dual-class system also affects the courageous team members of Animals’ Angels. Our project heads in Europe, the USA and Australia are all educated, professionally successful and respected women – Animals’ Angels, by the way, is the only animal welfare organization whose “front line fighters” are exclusively women! That alone could be a topic for a report. But not even the women’s magazine “Emma” reports on it.
We would like to change that - with your help!
