In detail this means:
Die Swiss foundation "Stiftung Eleonora-Susanna für den Tierschutz" has mainly and generously financed the work of Animals’ Angels in Bodzentyn for years. Since the beginning of the year the foundation now has the necessary infrastructure to carry out the projects in Poland itself and to relieve Animals’ Angels accordingly. We thank them for the wonderful cooperation for the benefit of the animals.

The market in Bodzentyn will be monitored by the new Animal Welfare Foundation in the future, but the individual employees have not been finally determined yet.

The work Animals' Angels began with the two mobile clinics will remain in tried and tested hands: one bus will be driven and worked by Karina and Marcin, the other by Bogdan.

As on Corfu and Iasi we thereby place successful work that we began into the hands of local people and wish them all the best for the good of the animals.

Unfortunately, our Team still has to document many violations: The loading and unloading of the animals contravenes the regulations and is done much too quickly: a bull has a broken horn and is bleeding profusely from the open wound; a cow has an infected udder; a cow can no longer walk on its own; a bull has its legs tied with a rope and some of the cows are tied to the transporters. Bogdan intervenes where this is possible and reports all of the violations to the competent veterinarian and the police.

Animals’ Angels visits the horse market in Bodzentyn, Poland. Almost all of the horses being offered for sale have bad hooves. Many of them are standing in the cold morning air wet with perspiration. Cold blood stallion Lukas is supposed to be loaded onto a transporter that is already full – with a whip and yelling. He rears up and goes on the defensive, and after much back and forth we are able to talk the owner into loading Lukas onto a small transporter by himself. After the corrections she takes the first careful steps. Then she notices that she can walk easily and without pain and gallops with happiness.

Due to the poor harvest this year many farmers are unable to keep their animals over winter and are now offering them for sale at market. He raves about how well behaved and calm the mare is and that he does not want to sell her to a slaughterhouse. But only a short time later we see the owner selling the mare to a transporter who will bring Poziomka to an Italian slaughterhouse. In addition, we once again see many cows with extreme injuries and strongly overgrown claws. On some cows we even see infections of the udder. Then we discover cow Diana. She has a broken tail. We go get the veterinarian and the police who are present join us too. The incidents are recorded and reported to the competent veterinary authority.

On the way to today’s market ANIMALS’ ANGELS finds stallion Piskorz (2 ½ years), who is lying on the side of the road exhausted. Together with another stallion this stallion was supposed to bring a wagon full of potatoes to market. The way from the farmyard to market was too long and so Piskorz collapsed due to founder and severe muscle aches. We organize straw and blankets and call the veterinarian for help. After 2 hours Piskorz is able to rise and walk normally. We organize a transporter to take him home.Today’s market runs quietly – three animal transporters are loaded. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on five horses: Esencja (12 years), Romb (2 years), Hansa (1 1/2 years), Bolek (14 years) and Gwiazdor (1 ½ years). Mare Esencja has a large injury on her back, which we treat. The horse owners are very pleased that our team is back at market.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects today’s cattle market and is disappointed to note that the two officers who are present do nothing to change the fact that only two transporters utilize the ramp for loading and unloading the animals. The rest of the transporters are standing all over the market. We are pleased to note that a roofed for calves is being built in one corner of the market.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects the horse market. Gelding Gucio is waiting for us at the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station. His hooves are so overgrown that he can barely walk. We correct his hooves and also give him a new halter. Mare Hajna (8 years) has poorly affixed horseshoes and is limping. We remove the shoes and correct her hooves. Afterward she leaves the station without limping. Mare Wazka (4 years) is so nervous that we can only correct her front hooves. Mare Pineska (9 years) has her hooves corrected and we also treat her putrid hoof frog.

We discover malanders on stallion Bystry’s leg. We will take the mobile clinic to the farmyard for treatment tomorrow.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS is able to prevent a trailer with eight calves that is not licensed for animal transports from leaving the market. Still at market two calves fall from the trailer. A licensed transporter is organized and the calves are reloaded. At the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station we correct the claws on cow Dorota (10 years).

Today we do not find any downer animals at market. Three cows have minor skin injuries that are treated by the veterinarians on site. At the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station we correct the claws on 8 cows. A bit later we discover a mare that pulled a calf on a wagon approximately 20km to get to market. Due to the ill-fitting harness she has injuries to the chest, which we treat. In addition, we will go see her with the mobile clinic this week to treat her bad hooves.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS Team inspects the cattle market in Bodzentyn. We still observe transporters with ramps that are much too steep that are not requested by the overseers to drive up to the fixed ramp. We inform the present veterinarians about the animal welfare problems in several cases, e.g. how several unmilked cows are already surrounded by a sea of milk – although EU Regulation 1/2005 provides for maximum milking intervals of 12 hours. The veterinarian does not take any action against the transporter of the animals as we observe.
We discover a transport vehicle for which we have demanded a market ban on several occasions because it risks injury to the animals and we call the police, who also discover technical defects.

In meetings with the mayor of Bodzentyn and the regional veterinarian ANIMALS’ ANGELS demands urgent improvements in animal welfare at the cattle market, including the replacement of the veterinarians on site. The agreements reached are a temporary closing of the market, new market rules, a consistent sanctioning of violations of the animal welfare law and Reg. 1/2005, the installation of two security cameras, the availability of euthanization at market and roofing over part of the premises. ANIMALS’ ANGELS will check whether the agreements are carried out over the next few months.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects the horse market and observes a dealer loading mares and stallions onto a transporter together. In addition, many of the horses are not wearing halters. We point these violations out to him and he immediately corrects his mistakes. There is much to do at the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station once again. We correct the hooves on stallion Sumik (1 year), stallion Gewont (9 years), stallion Alkierz (1 year), mare Sarda (7 years), stallion Fuks (2 years), stallion Jumak (7 months) and stallion Natan (1 year). Fuks also receives a de-worming treatment. After market we take the mobile clinic to visit stallion Hubert (see report re. mobile clinic of 27 March 2010). He is standing on piled-up muck again. We organize a digger to remove the muck and will drive by again tomorrow to inspect.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects today’s cattle market in Bodzentyn and finds several cows with minor injuries, but no downer animals. One bull (approximately 1 year old) is on a transporter with his front legs tied together. At our request the owner removes the ties that had already grown deeply into the skin. Our other instructions are also carried out without comment by all of the dealers today.
After market we take the mobile clinic to Stara Supia. Stallion Hubert (4 years) is standing in a dark stable filled with muck. He has strongly overgrown hooves, a dirty coat and matted mane. We lunge him behind the stable and afterwards correct his hooves, brush his coat and mane. We will visit Hubert again to carry out a stable modernization so that air and light can enter the stable.

Once again we document several violations of the law: one transporter does not utilize the loading/unloading ramp, one transporter is carrying a cow with injuries to the hind legs and another transporter has rusted, broken walls that could injure the animals. In addition, we find a cow (10 years) with a broken horn, swollen eye and tied hind legs. ANIMALS’ ANGELS will continue to monitor the cattle market and document violations.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects the horse market and sees very many horses with hoof problems. Also there are a noticeably great number of old animals being offered for sale today. At the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station we correct the hooves on mare Amelia (6 months), who is notably small and has a hernia. Her mother died after birth and the little foal was bottle-fed. We hope that a buyer will be found and that Amelia will be in good hands. In addition, we correct the strongly overgrown hooves on Mare Betyna (6 years), stallion Billaden (4 years) and mare Bella (10 months). All three can walk normally again and stand up properly after the correction.

Cow Magda (13 years) slips on the icy surface on the way to the “slaughter” transporter and falls. We bring her sand, straw and a blanket. After she has gotten back up by herself she is loaded onto the transporter over our objections. At market we also see an emaciated cow with injuries and a heifer with a torn-off horn. After market we take the mobile clinic to see mare Wizja to treat her hoof again.

We discover abrasions on the hips of some cows, which indicate transporters that are too short and narrow. In one transporter we see four cows that have fallen. The floor has no bedding and is thus too slippery for the animals. We stop the transporter. At our request the driver unloads half of the cows and organizes a second transporter. The attending veterinarian remains uninvolved.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects the cattle market in Bodzentyn under poor weather conditions. Approximately 700 cattle are at market. We discover the black-and-white cow Lisa (approx. 15 years). Her left front leg is broken and it causes her pain to stand, so she lies down in the cold snow. The break pierces the skin and she is bleeding. The leg swells. Despite our protests the veterinarian decides to transport Lisa to the nearest slaughterhouse for emergency slaughter. She is pulled onto the transporter after three hours and taken away. We also discover a transporter with ceilings that are much too low. We will report both incidents to the competent regional veterinarian.

The ANIMALS’ ANGELS Team observes the loading of four animal transporters. There is a big crowd at the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station today. Blacksmith Bogdan corrects the hooves of seven horses together with Karina: Gargamel (1.5 years), Obiezyswiat (4 years), Rydwana (2 years), Zeter (10 months), Pekon (8 months), Monian (7 months) and Karino (2 years). In addition, we exchange two worn halters for new ones and give stallion Karino a de-worming medication.

ANIMALS’ ANGELS inspects the cattle market in Bodzentyn. It is  -10 °C and there are approximately 600 cattle at market today. There are still a few dealers who use transporters with load ramps that are much too steep and represent a high risk of injury to the animals. One cow falls so badly that she can no longer put weight on her hind leg. Another cow can no longer get up and remains lying in the cold snow shivering. ANIMALS’ ANGELS submits a list to the regional veterinarian and the mayor of Bodzentyn of vehicles that should be excluded from the market. Further, ANIMALS’ ANGELS demands a meeting with the competent authorities once again, so that such animals are euthanized at market.

After market we take the mobile clinic back to see the cow that we took to a new stable on January 30. The wounds on her horns are looking better. We give her antibiotics again so that the wounds do not become infected.

Today the fixed ramp for loading and unloading is frequented better than usual and the drivers try to carry out the loading of the cows properly. In addition, we discover two little calves that are shivering from the cold. We cover them with a warm blanket so that they no longer have to freeze.After the market we receive a call for help from the municipality of Bodzentyn. We take the mobile clinic to a pregnant cow (9 years) who is standing in a stable with a collapsed roof, completely neglected. The owner, over 80 years old, is in the hospital. We find that the cow has a chain and rope that are already ingrown into her coat, so we remove them and treat the wounds. Escorted by the police we take the cow to a neighbor’s stable.

At the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station we treat the hooves of stallion Koliat (7 months) and stallion Tiktak (7 months). Koliat has a festered hoof frog on three hooves. We recommend to the new owner, who wants to work Koliat, to make sure he gets lots of exercise and movement.

The ANIMALS’ ANGELS Team inspects the horse market in Bodzentyn again this Monday. Today the market is well attended – six “slaughter” transporters are loaded with horses. Mare Baska (20 years) comes to our ANIMALS’ ANGELS station limping. Her front hooves have varying heights – the right hoof is twice as high as the left one. We find that the hoof frog is severely keratinized and that this is causing the mare a great deal of pain. After the hoof correction on the front hooves Baska no longer limps. On Wednesday we will take the mobile clinic to see her and correct the back hooves as well. Mare Aniela (1 year) comes to us with a wounded leg. We treat the injury and advise the owner to consult a veterinarian since the mare has a fever.

One transporter whom we had reprimanded several times because of sharp-edged metal partition walls is present again today – the places that were dangerous to the animals have been fixed. We find downer cow Zora on a truck. So that she will hold her head up the dealer tethers her. We remove the rope and Zora weakly lies on the ground.  The veterinarian we call orders her to be killed immediately. We go get Zora a bail of straw so that she does not have to lie on the cold, wet floor.

The ANIMALS’ ANGELS Team inspects today’s cattle market where many animals are present once again. The loading of the animals is mostly acceptable. We see two cows (both 14 years old) for which no buyer has been found yet. Since they have extremely long claws we correct the claws on both cows.
After market we take the mobile clinic to Celiny to see stallion Kary (2 years) in order to correct his hooves. Then we go make a final inspection of mare Aniela whose hoof growth we are treating. The hooves have healed well and the owner is happy that his mare is now healthy again.

On a transporter we treat the wounds of three foals caused by ropes.

The Animals’ Angels Team inspects today’s cattle market. We are glad not to find any downer cows and the handling of the animals is also mostly satisfactory. After all of the animals have been loaded our Team takes the mobile clinic to see mare Aniela to check on the growth on her hind hoof. We give her an antibiotic and change the hoof bandage. Fortunately, the growth has not grown back, the wound is dry and the leg swelling has gone down. If Aniela receives good care she has a good chance of healing. Finally, we correct the strongly overgrown claws on cow Irena (13 years).

At the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station we correct the hooves on mare Soja (5 months), mare Heda (13 years) and stallion Kasztan (2 years). Mare Zora (4 years) is limping. A sharp stone has grown into her hoof. We remove it and treat the hooves. Now Zora can walk properly again. Finally, mare Laki (1 year) receives de-worming medication.

We call her Laska and shorten her hooves at the ANIMALS’ ANGELS station. We find out that the mare has been sold to the Jaslo slaughterhouse. Then foal Merwin arrives at our station with a deep wound on the hind leg. We treat the wound and ask the owner to continue to watch it. In addition, we correct his hooves and those of four other horses: stallion Bartek (1 year), mare Hyra (5 years), stallion Guzik (2 years) and mare Metka (3 years).

At today’s market the Animals’ Angels Team observes the loading of three animal transporters. At the station we treat the hooves of 16-year old mare Szansa. We recommend to the owner to be a bit more conservative with the concentrated feed since the mare has already had founder several times. In addition, a man comes to see us at the station to let us know that his stallion Bartek (1 year) has gotten his appetite back after our de-worming treatment and that he is doing better and better each day. Bogdan and Karina correct the hooves on stallion Rondo (1 year), mare Brunetka (1 ½ years) and mare Aja (11 years).

At today’s market the Animals’ Angels Team treats mare Pluskwa (9 years). She is employed as a “work” horse in the field. The owner came to us because the mare is limping on a front leg, has an infected udder and beginning founder. In addition, she is five months pregnant. Afterwards, blacksmith Bogdan corrects the hooves of mare Salwa (1 year) at the station; stallion Bolek receives a de-worming treatment.
After the market the Team takes the mobile clinic to Lubienia to see mare Wizja, who has hoof cancer. We give her medications and replace the hoof bandage. Next week we will check the hoof again.

Today the Animals’ Angels Team observes the loading of three animal transporters once again. Unfortunately, one of the transporters is not using the required partition walls and we discover an injured stallion on another transporter. Then we discover two emaciated, apathetic horses and we talk their owner into coming to the Animals’ Angels station. We call the veterinarian, who treats mare Werena (1 year) and stallion Borek (1 year) with an antibiotic. Blacksmith Bogdan corrects the hooves.
Stallion Faktor (3 years) comes to the station. Since getting horseshoes he has been limping. Bogdan finds that the blacksmith placed the nails too deeply into the hoof. He removes the shoe and corrects the hooves.  In addition, he works on the hooves of stallion Leos (1 year), stallion Topas (3 years) and gelding Myszek (2 years).

The Animals’ Angels Team observes the loading of three animal transporters at today’s market. We do not see any sick or injured animals. On one of the transporters we see that the horses are standing too closely together and a mare is facing the opposite direction of the other horses. The transporter does not heed our request to unload the mare. We notify the competent veterinarian of the case. At the Animals’ Angels station blacksmith Bogdan and Karina correct the hooves of 10-year old mare Siwunia.

We only see few horses for sale today at the market. Animals’ Angels Team discovers a stallion with a large injury on the hind leg on a trailer. We take care of the wound and ask the owner to notify the veterinarian at home. At the Animals’ Angels station Bogdan and Karina correct the hooves on mare Maryna (3 years) and stallion Bartus (1 year). In addition, Bartus receives a de-worming medication.

At today’s horse market the Animals’ Angels Team watches again as three animal transporters are loaded with horses. Only one of the transporters is using the required partition walls. Our Team discovers three horses with advanced malanders, one horse with skin damage and dozens of horses with extremely bad hooves. At the Animals’ Angels station we treat stallion Kasztanek (2 years), who has a swollen leg. We give him an antibiotic and take care of the leg. In two days we will take the mobile clinic to see him in order to check on his leg. We correct the hooves on mare Cenia (10 years) who has never before had her hooves corrected. In addition, we exchange her halter for a new one. In addition, we correct the hooves on mare Mala (1 ½ years), stallion Milutek (5 years) and stallion Kasztanek (2 years). Stallion Gniady receives a new bit from us. After the market we visit stallion Human who has a bad case of malanders. The treatment takes more than two hours. In two days we will go see him again in order to give him the medications.

At today’s horse market the Animals’ Angels Team observes as three animal transporters are loaded via the loading ramp. A man who has come to market with his little daughter sells his foal to an Italian dealer. The daughter accompanies the foal all the way into the transporter. At the station blacksmith Bogdan corrects the hooves on mare Gladka (7 years) and mare Sangria (8 years).
After the market the Animals’ Angels Team travels to a farmyard with horses to inspect how the animals are kept. We find that the animals are only taken out of their dark stable for work. Since no one is present we will inspect the farmyard again next week.

At today’s market Animals’ Angels team observes how three animal transporters are loaded with horses. One dealer whom we had warned because of his bloody snaffles has procured new ropes for all of his horses.
In addition, we see a stallion with advanced malanders as well as joint injuries on four horses.
Blacksmith Bogdan corrects the hooves of mare Ciekawa (1 year), stallion Baron (1 year), mare Jasmin (2 years), stallion Gniady (4 years) and stallion Walek (1 year).

Today the Animals’ Angels Team inspects the cattle market. Only 20% of the transporters drive up to the secured ramp for loading and unloading. Almost every other cow at the market has an udder infection. In addition, we see two cows that can barely walk due to claw pain – one of the also has a torn-off teat and a very swollen udder. Not far from us three boys load a few cows onto a transporter. They treat the animals quite carefully since they notice that we are watching them. When a cow slips on the ramp they wait until she gets back up on her own.

At today’s horse market four animal transporters are loaded with horses. At the Animals’ Angels station blacksmith Bogdan corrects the strongly overgrown hooves on “work” mare Wanessa who can barely stand up. In addition, the Animals’ Angels Team corrects the hooves on gelding Tekst (3 years), stallion Murzyn (1.5 years), mare Petunia (15 years), gelding Dlawik (4 years) and mare Latka (1 year). The entire marketplace and the loading ramps were newly covered in gravel today.

Today’s horse market is taking place during strong rains. At the Animals’ Angels station blacksmith Bogdan and Karina correct the hooves on mare Vanessa (4 years), stallion Askaban (1 year), stallion Dolar (1.5 years) and stallion Blysk (1 year), who also receives a de-worming paste from us. When the horses are loaded onto the transporters Animals’ Angels Team discovers sick horses again, horses with founder or blood-smeared halters. These animals should not be transported. We will file a complaint with the regional veterinary office once again.

At today’s horse market three animal transporters are loaded with horses. Only one transporter has the required partition walls. We do not observe any sick horses on the trucks. At the station the Animals’ Angels Team treats the hooves of mare Nora (3 years), mare Gabi (1 year) and mare Basia (10 years).

The Animals’ Angels Team is at the horse market in Bodzentyn even on Pentecost Monday. We find a foal with an injured leg and treat the wound. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on mare Blondzia (7 years) and stallion Kilip (2 years). The hooves are extremely long and twisted. In addition, stallions Riflis (1 year) and mare Haidi (3 years) also receive a hoof correction from us.

2009-05-25 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn, Mobile clinic 
At today’s horse market the Animals’ Angels Team discovers an approximately 7-year old white mare that has head and leg injuries. We take her to the Animals’ Angels station and treat the wounds. At the station we correct the hooves of stallion Horado (2 years), stallion Wakat (8 months) and mare Karina (2 years). Stallion Grigorij has a bad case of malanders. We order the necessary medication and will take the mobile clinic to see him as soon as we receive them. Toward evening we receive a call for help. Mare Aldona (10 years) has not been eating for two weeks. She has a foal with her that is a couple of days old. The owner begs us to come as soon as we can. We take the mobile clinic to the farm and find Aldona in the stable, emaciated and with a sad face. We carry out a tooth treatment and hope that Aldona will feel better again soon.

2009-05-18 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
At today’s market the Animals’ Angels Team observes the loading of three transporters. We see a sick horse on a transporter destined for a Polish slaughterhouse. Unfortunately we are unable to do anything for it. We have a lot to do at the Animals’ Angels station today. We correct the hooves on 12 horses – three horses receive a de-worming paste. Stallion Waldek, who is suffering from founder, receives the appropriate medication – we will go see him with the mobile clinic in one week to see how he is doing.

2009-05-11 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn   
At today’s market Animals’ Angels Team observes 20-year old gelding Borys being bought by an older gentleman. Borys is emaciated and has bad teeth and hooves that are not cared for. We give him a de-worming paste and correct his hooves. In about two weeks we will come by with the mobile clinic and treat his teeth. At the Animals’ Angels station we show prepared parasite exhibits today and inform the persons present how important regular de-worming is. Mare Pastylia (1 year), mare Mawira (1 year), mare Kabala (4 years), mare Kamelia (4 years) and mare Ariadna (7 years) have their hooves corrected and on mare Agricola we exchange the bit.

2009-05-04 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
At today’s market the Animals’ Angels Team observes the loading of three transporters with young horses – destination slaughterhouse. At the Animals’ Angels station we exchange two sharp bits for good ones. Mare Malwa (4 years) has not eaten in three days – we discover that she has very bad teeth and carry out a tooth treatment. Gelding Funt (4 years) also has tooth problems and we treat him. We correct the hooves of five additional horses: stallion Lifi (1 year), stallion Komentar (4 years), gelding Kuba (4 years), mare Finezja (3 years), mare Ania (3 years).

2009-04-27 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
Today it is busy once again at the Animals’ Angels station in Bodzentyn. Mare Twierdza (8 years) has malanders and due to the rear hooves that have grown crookedly she has wounds on her legs. We give her a de-worming paste, treat her wounds and correct her hooves. Next week we will drive the mobile clinic to the owner’s farm as he has more horses with malanders. We correct the hooves on seven other horses: stallion Zenek (2 years), stallion Kary (12 months), stallion Bon (2 years), stallion Kajman (2 years), mare Kasia (15 years), mare Alina (11 years) and gelding Iwan (2 years).

2009-04-20 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
Animals’ Angels Team is accompanied to the horse market by a camera crew from WDR. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves of stallion Topor (1 year), mare Baska (12 years), stallion Werter (8 years) and mare Kaja (7 years). In addition, many farmers stop by to ask our advice and to request our help for their horses.

2009-04-06 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
Animals’ Angels Team discovers that many of the horses that are present today have bad hooves. The first “patient” – gelding Rejs (25 years) is already waiting at the Animals’ Angels station. He is suffering from founder and still has to do hard fieldwork. The veterinarian gives him pain medication and we organize a transport for his wagon so that Rejs is spared from the hard work. In addition, we give mare Gabi and mare Lora a medication for de-worming and correct their hooves, as well as those of stallion Debint (1 year), mare Warna (8 months), mare Lora (4 years), mare Gabi (5 years), gelding Kastan (25 years) and stallion Dziki (11 months).

Today the Animals’ Angels Team inspects the market during heavy rains once again. At the station we correct the hooves on stallion Bzyg (2 years), stallion Wojtek (1 year), gelding Sam (13 years) and stallion Wicherek (1 year).

Once again the Animals’ Angels Team has to fight poor weather conditions. During strong rain and storms, three transporters are loaded. At the station we correct the hooves on mare Syberia (9 years), mare Waliska (1 year), mare Papa (7 years), mare Blyskawica (8 months), mare Mala Miss (8 years) and mare Kropka (1 year).

Again the Animals’ Angels Team inspects the market during strong rainfall. Due to the weather conditions the farmers leave the market relatively quickly. We hardly see any horses with proper hooves. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on mare Kaskada (4 years) and stallion Bajer (7 years).

Today the Animals’ Angels Team inspects the market in pouring rain. The loading and unloading of the transporters is done correctly today and without incident. Despite the rain we correct the hooves on four horses: stallion Lodowiec (4 years), stallion Grot (1 year), mare Zadrula (1 year) and stallion Bary (8 months). We give stallion Grot a de-worming paste and treat a wound on his hind leg.

Today there are only few animals at market because a horse market is taking place in Skaryszew at the same time. The Animals’ Angels Team discovers stallion Panter (1 year old) whose twine halter has been tied so tightly that it has already grown into the tissue. We exchange the halter for a good one, take care of the wound and correct the stallion’s hooves. At the Animals’ Angels station we also correct the hooves of mare Lajka (1 ½ years old). In Skaryszew three large transporters are loaded. We do not see any sick or injured animals.

2009-02-23 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
The Animals’ Angels team observes three animal transporters being loaded. A foal is down in one of the transporters destined for Italy. After we intervene all of the horses are unloaded and the foal is able to get back up. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on stallion Gulon (4 years) and stallion Elektryk (2 years).

2009-02-16 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
Today it is snowing in Bodzentyn and we have to clear much snow from the Animals’ Angels station. An older gentleman buys the former “work” mare Baska (25 years) for his grandchildren. We correct her hooves and treat her with a de-worming paste, as we do with stallion Sok. In addition we correct the hooves on stallion Sok (9 months), stallion Rumcajs (8 months) and stallion Szybki (4 years).

Three transporters are loaded today. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on five horses: Mare Figa (8 years), stallion Atos (8 months), mare Kora (3 years), stallion Grot (6 years), mare Czajka (3 years).

2009-02-02 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
Today only few animals are at market since it is a church holiday in Poland. Stallion Bis has a split front hoof and comes to the Animals’ Angels station. Bogdan carefully corrects the hoof. Stallion Galant suffers from a misalignment of the hooves and as result his joints have already been stressed. Unfortunately the owner comes to us too late, but with much diligent care Galant does stand a chance of recovery. In addition we correct the hooves on mare Wena.

Today is a fairly quiet market day. We do not see any sick or injured animals. At the Animals’ Angels station we take care of stallion Wazon with a de-worming paste. In addition, we correct the hooves of seven horses: stallion Fartel (3 years), stallion Wazon (2 years), stallion Gniadosz (2 years), stallion Portos (1 ½ years), stallion Laser (6 months), mare Alaska (5 years) and mare Zaletka (2 years).

Today the Animals’ Angels team observes how three transporters are loaded at market. This time the transporters have enough straw bedding inside but the required partition walls are still not installed. A long line forms at the Animals’ Angels station today. We correct the hooves on eight horses. All of them have extremely bad hooves. Stallion Eton receives a good bit from us and mares Baska and Hajra receive a de-worming paste.

2009-01-12 | Poland | Horse market in Bodzentyn 
At -15°C and with dangerously slick market surfaces, we inspect the horse market in Bodzentyn. Numerous workhorses have arrived and three animal death transporters are loaded. At the Animals’ Angels station we correct the hooves on mare Haga (2 years), stallion Pubek (6 months), stallion Warkocz (6 months) and mare Moneta (6 months). We give 2-year old stallion Czart a de-worming treatment (see photo).
